XORCIST - Nomad
Songs: 12  Time:  71:31
This, the third true full length from Xorcist, is by far his most mature work to date.  Gone are the sinister, video game-ish overtones, replaced by lush synth soundscapes.  Left behind are the rigorous beats, substituted by less aggressive, more structured ones.  Laid to rest are the snarled vocals and shock value samples, giving life to whispered musings and operatic chants.  Nomad exhibits strength from start to finish. Granted, some of the 'staple' Xorcist sounds can be found within, but Peter chooses to lighten them up enough to make this CD more appealing to more people without disappointing his already founded fan base.  Alienautic perfectly demonstrates the union of the old and the new Xorcist sound.  Linking a mild backing beat together with crashing, symphonic sequences and monk-ish chants; this track is pure ecstasy when listened to in a dark room through headphones.  Waves of sound wash back and forth between the speakers, creating a drifting, light musical environment.  Trichotomy is an atmospheric piece with distant horn sounds and surges of wind sounds that leave the listener feeling as if they're lost in some deep, dark woods on a cold mediaeval night.  The angelic mantra and the clanking beat of Insect leaves me feeling like I'm stranded on a haunted spaceship.  On Pretty, Peter utilizes his vocals more than on any of the other Nomad tracks.  His growling vocals are complimented by a scraping rhythm and crunchy backing beats.  This track, if any, is the closest to the Xorcist of past than any others on this album.  The final piece, whose title is comprised of a series of odd symbols, is more of an experimental noise track, riddled with peculiar samples and bombastic sounds.  To finalize, Nomad spans the realm of unique and well thought out music that joins many different genres of electronic music into one package.  Just buy it…you won't be sorry.
