I had heard quite a lot about Wry Yelp,
but it wasn’t until recently that I actually got to experience their sound for
myself. Rising from the newer breed of Euro electro, Wry Yelp approach
electronic music from a subtler side. Future Beware is a 9 track
promo of dark electro that never feels the need to become aggressive or fierce
sounding. Changing Feelings contains a resonating rhythm, airy
sequences, ghostly samples, and Andreas’ guttural vocals. The beats aren’t as
prominent as found in a lot of electronic music, but if you listen closely you
will easily hear how complex they sound. Variation seems to be another key to
Wry Yelp’s programming. Every song goes through a multitude of changes, never
sticking with a singular pattern for too long. To me, this is one of the best
ways a musician can approach his/her music. Edging towards an EBM sound,
Future Beware is comprised of solid dance beats, squeaky sequences, and a
robust rhythm. Extermination continues along this same musical route,
adding some nice snare sounds, cascading synth patterns, and semi manipulated
vocals. Reminiscent of the sometimes creepy style of :W:, Nothing To
Fear features somber vocals, rolling / bombastic beats, and staticy
electronics. From their, Wry Yelp drastically change up their style on Skin
on Skin. This piece is a darker, more atmospheric track with colossal
sequences, varied beats, pulsating sound intrusions, and murky vocals. Cloned
begins with a samplefest aligned with a galloping beat. Once Andreas’ vocals
begin, so do the higher ended sequences and pulsating rhythm line. The nine
songs presented here should be proof enough that Wry Yelp are easily ready to
assault the market with their caliginous sound and it shouldn’t be too long
before the world is treated to a proper full length on some lucky label.
