If there was ever any album worthy of being
deemed album of the decade, Spectators by Wolfsheim is it.
I could never say enough great things about this CD. From beginning to end,
Spectators will grab you, seduce you, entrance you, and make you dance like
you've never danced before! It's Hurting for the First Time begins this
CD in grand fashion with enrapturing vocals, sweeping synths, and alluring beats
that call you to the dance floor. Heppner's vocals are so truly unique and
engrossing that even on a track such as Künstliche Welten (Artificial
Country), which is entirely sung in German, you'll still find yourself singing
along anyway, not knowing exactly what you're saying……and not really caring. Blind
is a mellow piece that is comprised of swaying background synths, a wet,
palpitating rhythm, and slow, trotting beats. The first single to be released
from this album, Once in a Lifetime, was an instant hit on dance floors
across the world. Intellectual and thought provoking lyrics are joined with a
steady, galloping beat, and sweet synths. With its ultra intricate, tech-step
beat programming, Sleep Somehow will definitely come as a wonderful
surprise to fans of the more delicate side of Wolfsheim. Returning to the more
melodious sound, I Don't Love You Anymore is a track that is exactly what
you would expect to here from Wolfsheim, mature synth-pop with enough musical
variety for anyone who loves electronic music. Lastly, the final track, E,
is a lustful instrumental with a jumpy beat, Middle Eastern chant samples, and
anxious sequences. Spectators is quite possibly the best light electronic album
ever produced. I highly recommend you pick this one up at any costs, regardless
of if you prefer your electronic music edgier. You WILL NOT be disappointed.
