WILT
- Wilt
Songs: 7 Time: 44:44
Wilt is
another project by Ryan Kodzik (of Lapse.) Where as Laspe is more
experimental and atmospheric, Wilt is more of a straight forward electro project
complete with distorted vocals and danceable beats. Clouds contains
pounding percussion, which borders on techno, and droning sequences. More
subdued in its programming, Move utilizes a slower beat, and non-effected
vocals. A bit of acoustical guitar work is implemented into Kiss, a more
melodic track that relies upon it heavy rhythm line and untreated vocals to
carry it through. Faster isn’t quite what I expected, as its probably
the slowest piece on the tape. Again, Ryan uses a heavy rhythm line as the
backbone of the piece, upon which the vocals, trudging beat, and sonic sequences
are placed. Side two contains three mixes, one for Clouds and two for Kiss.
The Clouds mix really didn’t do anything for me, as it comes across as a more
toned down version of the original. Drownedout (Kiss remix) is a nice
little piece with a changeable, up-tempo beat, distorted vocals, and a
pulverizing rhythm. I enjoyed this project much better than Lapse, mostly
because it’s longer and gives me more of a taste of what Ryan’s trying to
accomplish with his music, but also because it’s more user-friendly in that it
has more potential to be easily accepted by most electro fans.
