WAY SECT BLOOM
- s/t
The Way Sect Bloom
have made several compilation appearances, but this is the first full fledged
release I’ve heard from them. On this self-titled EP, The Way Sect Bloom create
music that combines the EBM stylings of current Euro electro with the coldwave
elements of the US. Subsidize melds gritty vocals and a pounding rhythm
against a hard bed of strict electronics and crushing beats. Quite the opposite
is true on Frustrate, which relies on its mid-paced hip-hop beat,
prominent vocals, and space rock guitar work. Continuing with the space rock
guitar, Washed begins more acoustically before the wet sequences,
semi-whispered vocals, and slow beat kick in. While this is the slowest piece
on this EP, it is also the strongest, showcasing their varied programming and
composition skills. Aligning themselves with the coldwave genre, Illumina
sports harder guitar work, more jagged vocals, and minimal electronic
elements. As a whole The Way Sect Bloom are a musically diverse group. It be
nice to see them pick one of their many styles and stick with it for future
releases.
