URANIA -
Initiation

The debut release from Brain Surgery Music,
Urania's Initiation is a potent CD that is both exciting to
the mind and body. The man behind the mask of Urania, George Hagegeorge, is no
stranger to this scene. Having been a founding member of Under the Noise,
producer for The Aggression and Pygmy Children, and remix master
for a variety of projects (BiGod 20, Hellsau, Clay People,
etc.) Hagegeorge knows how to create multidimensional musical pieces. With
Urania Hagegeorge explores a variety of electronic sub-genres. On Secret
he develops a trippy techno beat and adds in some spacey synths, and shared
male/female vocals. Heading in the opposite direction, First Swirling is
a noisy piece with a scraping rhythm, staticy vocals, and dense beats. With
this piece Hagegeorge shows that he can keep up with the Euro power-noise
movement and even advance the sound a bit farther. Dirt is a
straight-edged electro dance piece complete with techno styled sequences,
rolling beats, and angry vocals. The title track, Initiation, is a dense
piece with shouted vocals, tripped-out beat programming, and an underlying,
noisy rhythm. Fractured Spirit is a funky electro piece with a cascading
rhythm line, both male & female vocals, and slower beats. More experimental in
nature, Katabasis is a seven-minute piece that ebbs and flows with light
synth noises and samples. The finale, Reactor, is comprised of a wet
rhythm line, radical beats, and occasional vocals. Thus far in his career,
Initiation is the highlight, which is saying quite a bit considering I've
enjoyed everything he has done. What Hagegeorge has done with Urania far
surpasses what most musicians are accomplishing today. Initiation is truly an
amazing CD and should not be overlooked.
