3D HOUSE OF BEEF - Similar Attack Patterns
Songs: 10  Time:  52:17

Hailing from the great northwest, 3D House of Beef is one of those bands who have eluded me for sometime now.  Finally, on Similar Attack Patterns, I was able to hear what this foursome is capable of creating.  Unfortunately, only 2 of these 10 songs appear in their original form, with the remaining 8 being reconstructed by the likes of 16 Volt, Deathline Int'l, Scar Tissue, and Leech Woman.  Upon my initial listen, I was immediately drawn into the Mudcock Mix of Sedition, a mix reworked by 16 Volt.  This track contains, among other things, squeaky synth lines, an array raw / powerful beats, and demonic / guttural vocals.  Crawl (Mental Baggage Claim Mix) seems to be fashioned more after slower paced death metal than anything else.  This one really is not to my liking.  The Scar Tissue Perception Mix of Society of Old Crows seems to have the same beat as Revolting Cocks' remake of Let's Get Physical.  This is the predominant feature of this track which, along with some odd whaling sounds and occasional vocals, comes across as rather interesting.  There is a lot more electronic sounds found within the Deathline Int'l Mix of White Hog Slaughter.  Deep synth sounds are joined with raw drum patterns, crunchy guitar sounds and sparse vocals on this remixed track.  Abate is one of the pair of original tracks on Similar Attack Patterns.  This piece can be paralleled with the remix of Crawl in that it aligns itself more with death metal than anything close to the 'industrial' realm of music.  Wow!  The Class 3 Permit Mix of Society of Old Crows is quite maddening!  Take a scoop of Exorcist samples, mix with riotous beats, add in a dash of mangled synth sounds, bake for 3 minutes and 13 seconds, and there you have it……one of the craziest tracks ever recorded.  Similar Attack Patterns has both its high and low points.  There is definitely a wide variety of sounds / styles presented on this singular CD, which makes it difficult for me to say that I enjoyed it from start to finish, but spattered in between are a few real gems.
