Pleasant Smell
has to be one of the worst songs I have ever heard. Claudia, the
singer for 12 Rounds, sounds like a reject from the Rocky Horror
Picture Show and the music behind her is so simple and uninteresting that I
cannot fathom why they were ever signed. The album version of Pleasant Smell
tries too hard to be psychedelic and actually comes off sounding trite and
monotonous. Each of the remaining 7 mixes are quite a bit better, but really
nothing can save this song. Some of the remixers include Trent Reznor, Clint
Mansell, Charlie Clouser, and Dave "Rave" Ogilvie. While most of these remixes
offer something different from the original, none of them seem to really take
the track in any radical new direction. In all honesty, this MCD really should
be avoided.
