MLADA FRONTA

Mlada Fronta
is a new French noise act featuring Remy Pelleschi and Gilles Saissi. Signed to
Flatline Records, Mlada Fronta's debut is a powerful mix of aggressive noise and
experimental ambience. Beginning with Neuronal, High Tension
starts to build itself upon distant beats, humming electronics, and screeching
sequences. With an overall sound reminiscent of a computer hard-at-work,
Neuronal slowly pounding and vibrates its way out of your speakers. The title
track takes noise to a new level by actually managing to stick to a structure
that is easy to follow. Collapsing beats, staticy synths, and a dissonant
rhythm congeal to form a quite enjoyable, semi-danceable power noise track.
Furious beats give way to slower, more moderately paced rhythmic elements on
Next. Spiced up with a radically distorted guitar chord, Next sounds as if
it could be used as the theme to the next big Hollywood cyber-horror sci-fi. Lobotomy
is a beatless composition constructed around an array of mechanized and
electrified sounds and ambient synth lines. Xingu Hill's reconstruction
of this piece adds in a light and trippy beat as well as some various samples. XB
33 includes both tribal as well as harsher, distorted beats all set upon a
layer of scratchy electronics. The three part Electric Chair tracks go
from mild noise (Process 1) to technofied ambient (Process 2) to
erratic industrial (Process 3). Four remixes finish out the CD, with the
most notable being the ultra austere, mind numbing Censored mix of
Toxic TV by Converter. Already on the forefront of the powernoise
movement, Converter pushes the boundaries once again by creating such a
disturbing yet addicting mix of this somewhat mild track. Along side of
labelmates Noisex, Mlada Fronta are expanding upon the sometimes
redundant power noise scene and with High Tension they prove that there is room
within this genre to grow and begin to create something diverse and interesting.
