MIG
- Tongues
Songs: 16 Time: 57:32
Originally hailing from Baghdad, Mig
now resides in London. On Tongues, Mig melds a bit of the Middle
Eastern flavor together with minimalistic electro to create an interesting
album. Vermillion Lips revolves around a steady beat, backing horn
sounds, a variety of quirky sequences, and echoing vocals. Dead Thinking
is a jumpy electronic piece that once again mixes odd sequences (ranging from
orchestra type movements to vaudevillian sounds), a stable beat, and a
smattering of vocal samples. Soma is a more experimental piece with
sparse, hollow beats, a light, rolling rhythm, and a few, dark vocals. A
somewhat distorted guitar sound is mixed with slower beats and psychedelic /
folksy vocals on Sour Rain. There is a bit of funk influence on
Swingslide, a track built upon bass guitar sounds, hollow beats, and fluctuating
horn sounds. Vegetables has some interesting beat changes mixed in among
some wet sequence sounds, and harpsichord (?) sounds. The album finishes with
Deserted, a light piece with airy sequences, slow thunderous beats, and
some more Middle Eastern musical sounds. Tongues isn't the best independent
album that I've ever heard, but it is one of the most diverse and original. I'm
not too sure what the target audience of this release is suppose to be, but I'm
sure that if they exists, Mig will find them.
