MENTALLO & THE FIXER - False Prophets

This is the new, 4 song single from the Tex-electro duo known as Mentallo & the Fixer.  On False Prophets, Dwayne and Gary give us two mixes of Mother of Harlots, one mix of False Prophets, and a new, non-album track entitled Deluge 2370 B.C.E.  The Full Frontal Lobotomy Mix of False Prophets kicks things off with an aggressive rhythm line, quirky sequences, and a dark, ominous beat.  The vocals are as twisted and maniacal as your typical Mentallo track, yet the way in which they are layered upon the more upbeat music makes them seem less demented.  There are several nice changes within this piece, ranging from rhythm and tempo variations to a diverse beat programming and sporadic sampling.  The next piece, Mother of Harlots (Multi-National Brain Washer Re-mix), begins with a soothing piano pattern, which is shortly joined by a contorted beat and clouded synth lines.  Again, as in the first track, this piece goes through a multitude of changes as an array of fresh sounds wind their way in and out of the track.  Everything from bombastic symphonic crashes and dark, cascading sequences to pummeling rhythm lines and partially drowned and garbled vocals.  Deluge 2370 B.C.E. is a more experimental piece with a grinding background and clamorous sequences.  Even though it is more avant garde sounding, it still manages to maintain a solid beat, which throws it’s style somewhere between industro-dance and noisy electro.  Lastly, the Tempo Crusher mix of Mother of Harlots takes most of the original sound structures, tosses them in a bag, shakes them well, and dumps them out on the floor in total disarray.  Not that this is a bad thing, but quite the opposite.  Much more chaotic and discombobulated than the original, Dwayne and Gary do a fine job of agitated their initial composition and molding it into something completely different.  The False Prophets single is well worth the price, considering it clocks in at over 25 minutes and if you’re a fan of M&tF, as I am, this will not disappoint.
