Melotron's
second single from their Mörderwerk CD is Der Blaeu Planet.
Along with the three mixes of the title track, we also find two additional /
b-side tracks. Of the trio of mixes, the Antiimperialistischerschutzmix
is the best. Whereas the other two mixes, the Radio ver. and the
Lange ver., are simply shorter and longer versions of the album track, the
third mix is quite different. Clocking in at just over 8 minutes, this mix
incorporates a more ambient techno sound to the original. The rhythmic elements
of the original are the driving force behind this mix, leaving the beats and
vocals to play secondary roles. Of all of the Melotron mixes I've heard of
late, this strikes me at the most diverse. Auf Der Suche has And One
written all over it. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, just so long as
they don't try to emulate And One on every track they record. The final track,
Neubrandenburg, is an instrumental piece reminiscent of carousel music
with an added beat. Weaving in and out of this track are these really odd and
kind of creepy sounds that make me think of robotic crickets. Melotron has this
style that is nearly impossible to describe without using the same terms over
and over again (those ' terms' being synth-pop and electro.) It's a nice unison
of sounds that rarely works well together, but Melotron manage to pull it off
very well.
