MATRIX - Frequency Coupler
Songs: 3

Quite a few people have been talking about Matrix lately and it’s easy to see why.  Aside from playing out quite a bit in the New York area, Matrix also come across sounding very impressive on The Frequency Coupler EP.  This three song tape begins with Humanity, a track that relies upon a trotting beat, gargled vocals, dense / wet rhythms, and a warped piano sound.  Alone, none of the elements of this piece are extremely compelling, but combined, they all fit nicely together.  Convergance (which looks as it it’s spelled wrong) takes the band in another direction.  Beginning with a chopped up trip-hop beat, Convergance mutates itself into a more EBM structured piece with light sequences, hard beats, and staticy vocals.  The final track, Give, continues to plunge ahead into the EBM genre, but this time the beats are more complex and the synths are less noticeable.  Combined, this trio of songs are all as strong as the next and each shows a slightly different side of the band’s sound.  Keep your eyes peeled for Matrix in the near future.
