Manipulation,
by no means, is a commonly recognized band. Tumor (I believe) is
their first release and with it they display their propensity for harder EBM.
Manipulation's style is that of modernized dance music with heavy emphasis
placed on the beats. Gritty synth lines, a dense rhythm, pounding beats, and
heavily German accented vocals comprise Opposite, the first track on the
CD. One Side takes a bit of a step back in time with it's thumping
distorted beats and metallic sequences. This is also one of the few tracks
where you can actually pick out the guitar riffs amongst the music. Tausend
Sterne is the first track in which we hear the Xenia's vocals. Her delivery
is partially operatic in nature, but with a meatier edge. Next Step Suicide
contains wet, spacey synth sounds (think Evils Toy and Re/Act)
alongside of the fixed beat and Andreas' partially processed vocals. The title
track takes a turn towards the metal genre with its think guitar sounds and less
prominent beat. Elektrosmog is a rough 'n' tough EBM piece with violent
beats and cybernized synth sounds. Combining synth-pop styled vocals with cold
dance music, Burning is yet another stand out track. The final piece, No
Fight No More, is an aggressive piece with darker overtones in its
sequences Manipulation managed to really impress me upon the first listen and
with each new listen I find that I enjoy it even more.
