MAINESTHAI
- Out To Lunch
Songs: 13 Time: 73:32
Mainesthai
is the brainchild of Mentallo & the Fixer’s Dwayne and
Gary Dassing along with vocalist Michael Greene. As noted in the liner notes,
‘Mainesthai was created to be ugly and psychotic and in utter chaos.’ This
statement could not be any truer. If you’re expecting to hear M&TF’s
Revelations 23 or even Benestrophe’s Sensory Deprivation,
than don’t bother picking this up. If you’re in need of something fresh, yet
not adhering to any said musical boundaries, then get this CD immediately. Out
To Lunch is as diverse an album as one could ask for. Michael’s spoken
word vocals border on evil, while the Dassing’s music jumps helter skelter
across the electronic playing field. Mainesthai was created to be witnessed and
heard in a live performance setting, which adds to it’s inextricable atmosphere.
The music and vocals sound live enough, in that there seems to be little value
placed in the production and/or recording of this project. Of the 13 tracks on
Out to Lunch, 5 of them are remixes. The stand out piece has to be the
percussion driven and strongly rhythmic Playing God. This is also the
piece in which Michael’s vocals are the least abrasive. Not to say that his
vocals are smooth as silk on this piece, but they do seem to blend in with the
music moreso than on the remaining tracks. If you never bothered to pick this
up when Zoth Ommog released it, now is the opportune time get your hands on this
US breed classic.
