LIQUID SEX DECAY - s/t
Songs: 8  Time:  47:18

From the fall of Apparatus rises Liquid Sex Decay.  On their self-titled debut CD the boys behind LSD veer away from the cold harshness that they dabbled in with Apparatus and steer more towards an intelligent electro sound mixed with atmospheric sounds and whispered vocals.  Laced with samples from Strange Days, this CD begins with L.S.D.; a piece layered with moody / aquatic sounds, twisted percussion, and a smattering of Middle Eastern styled chanting.  From there, LSD attempt to frighten the listener with creepy samples on Dr. Who?.  With a rhythm that ‘s a bit more accessible, Dr. Who? takes the listener on a 6 minute journey through hellish sampling, reverberating synth lines, atmospheric sequence patterns, and trotting beats.  By the time the third track, Everything Dies, begins you’ll get the idea that Syd and York are no longer attempting to produce coldwave, yet their is still a chill to their new sound.  The vocals on this particular piece are softly delivered, yet frigid, while the music behind them edges towards a more experimental, soundtrack sound.  They do add a dash of the old guitar riffs on Pins and Needles, but it isn’t the stringed beast that drives this piece.  The hollow vocals coupled with the firm rhythm and strong beats are what make this the standout track.  Schizophrenia is a ominous piece with a punchy rhythm line and isochronal synth patterns.  The album finishes of with two mixes of Pins and Needles, one being a radio edit.  The other, Needles and Pins, relies heavily on the vocals, while the synths slowly ebb and flow through the background.  LSD is quite a turn around from their previous project, which came as a surprise to me.  I hope that LSD can continue to carry pout this sound and style on their future releases.
