Fahrenheit
is the new offering from Zoth chief, Torben Schmidt (a.k.a.
Lights of Euphoria.) This time, instead of being assisted by loads of other
artists, Torben has chosen Jimmy Machon (of Godheads) to do most of the
vocals. The semi experimental album opener, Fahrenheit, is an entrancing
piece full of hollow sequences and apocalyptic samples. After that, Slow
Motion begins with an abrasive dance beat, guttural vocals, and an addictive
rhythm. Blood Brother again utilizes a hard dance beat, but this time
the vocals are more natural and the sequences are more airy. Waters of Hades
follows a standard EBM approach with a pumping beat and slowly cascading
sequences. Sticking with the EBM style, Hope of Salvation features a
clanky beat, a harsh rhythm line, and a few, scattered sound bites. Sounding a
bit like a Top 40 dance track, Remember Me is comprised of a flat beat
and synth-pop like sequences. Sundown is a slower track which relies on
the trudging beats and Machon’s sparse vocals to drive it. The highlight of
this CD is Taste Me, a mid-paced track with a dreary and wet rhythm, 303
constructed sequences and vocals that go between natural and processed.
Wandering off into the synth-pop genre again, Neighbors uses a series of
‘happy’ sequences behind the vocals (sung by M. Meyn), which are delivered in a
similar style as D. Gahan. For some reason of another this track sounds *very*
familiar. D. Osterman (In Strict Confidence / Controlled Fusion)
is the vocalist on Born to Die, an extremely noisy piece with
reverberated vocals, staticy beat programming, and a throbbing rhythm. I found
that the second ˝ of Fahrenheit was far more diverse (and therefore better IMHO)
than the first. Actually I liked the first few Lights of Euphoria releases
better because of the guests vocalists. Not to say that Fahrenheit is a bad
album. It’s definitely a good album, but I think it lack the diverseness of
Beyond Subconscious.
