LESCURE 13 - s/t
Songs: 13  Time:  47:18
For the uninformed crowd, Lescure 13 is a collaboration between the mastermind of Suicide Commando (Johan Van Roy) and Stefan Bens.  On their self titled, debut release Johan and Stefan take the noisy side of electro and implement simplistic EBM subtleties, thus creating a sound that is harsh yet dancey.  All of the music is created by Johan, with Stefan complimenting the sound with his darkened vocals.  The Resurrection contains staticy, cascading rhythms aligned with trotting beats and guttural vocals.  This piece is a rhythm heavy track with minimal backing sequences.  What sounds like an ultra distorted guitar chord starts off Female Killer.  Again, the rhythm and beats are very strict, almost reminiscent of the early EBM sound.  Johan takes over the vocal responsibilities on Nature’s in Need, a track that is driven by a pounding beat and screeching rhythm line.  Joahn’s vocals seem more distant, and colder than those of Stefan.  On Control Johan remains in charge of the vocals, this time opting for a more whispered approach.  The music on this piece is highly rhythmic, with the beat and sequences playing second hand behind the dominant rhythm line.  More is exactly what I wanted after hearing this piece.  Clocking in at just over 2 minutes, More is the strongest piece on this CD.  The beats are more developed and modern sounding, while the austere rhythm runs hand in hand with the brusque vocals.  Body Heat has a sound similar to some of the bands found on the early Zoth released Electronic Body Music samplers.  Although simplistic in nature, it’s aggressive enough to get your feet in motion.  God is Nothing is the one track that doesn’t seem to fit in with the others.  Composed of a disturbing, warped rhythm line and nearly non-existent beat, this piece could easily have passed as a Suicide Commando track.  Lastly, Who Has the Right (’96 Mix) is another highlight of this album.  Old-school EBM rhythms and beats are laid down under layered vocals.  Both the music and the vocals are equally as catchy.  This one has club hit written all over it.  Lesure 13 has a sound that should appeal to those who aren’t too keen on the noisy sound of Suicide Commando.  Fusing together the (Nitzer Ebb-like) percussionary elements with the experimental noise sound makes this an album that should be appealing to hard-core electro heads as well as those who enjoy the more experimental side of industrial music.
