LARD - Pure
Chewing Satisfaction
Songs: 8 Time: 37:21
After a few years of silence, Lard
returns with a new album(?). I’m not quite sure if 8 songs constitutes an
album, but I suppose that’s neither here nor there. Pure Chewing
Satisfaction follows the same style as the previous Lard releases in
that it combines the accelerated industro-speedmetal of Ministry with the
politically, yet humorous lyrics of Jello Biafra. Before I go into the actual
music I want to tell you about the booklet that is enclosed. This has to be the
thickest CD book I’ve ever seen. 32 pages (including cover) of newspaper
snippets, photos, and lyrics make this one of the most interesting booklets I’ve
seen. The articles are very small, yet I continually find myself attempting to
read them. Their nature ranges from serious to humorous, sometimes managing to
be both. OK, now onto the music. As a whole, the music sounds like a
continuation of Last Temptation of Reid, but the lyrics are more
updated (i.e. they deal with more recent issues.) I found that Pure Chewing
Satisfaction was a far cry better than Ministry’s last release, in that it is
much more interesting to listen to. Not only are the lyrics better, but the
music seems more abrasive and aggressive and less monotonous. As far as this
style of music goes, Lard has a firm grasp on how it should sound, as well as
how it should be produced. The quality of this CD is very high. If you liked
their last album, then you’re sure to enjoy this one as well.
