LA FLOA MALDITA

Reconciled With the Light
is a sort of ‘best of’ compilation that documents the recordings of La Floa
Maldita between 1993 and 1995. Of the 15 tracks, only 2 of are unreleased
versions, so if you’re already caught up with all of their previous releases,
than you really won’t need this disc. From their 1994 album, The
Concealed Spell, La Floa Maldita give us 7 tracks. Sang Chaud
utilizes Rhea’s beautiful vocals against a minimalistic, yet melodic background
comprised of light orchestral elements and a slow beat. Imagination,
with its catchy sequences and light rhythm, shows La Floa Maldita moving towards
a more synth-pop style. Adding a dash of darkwave to the mix, L’enfer
Confortable juxtaposes dreamy piano sequences against an aquatic beat. The
rhythm becomes militaristic in nature and a bit more harsh on Untitled
Dreamscape. This track is also one of the few with whispered, male vocals.
Holy Brightness, Drifting Downward is another orchestral based
composition with ethereal vocals and a slow, hollow beat. Moving into 1995, La
Floa Maldita’s style changes ever so slightly. On Sorcière (Radio Edit)
the music becomes a bit more accessible with the addition of a strong dance
orientated beat to the catchy sequences. Off of the EP of the same name,
Sorcière proves to be on of the strongest compositions by this band on the rise.
Another full length, entitled Dedication! Separation!, was
released in 1995. From this full length we get the title track, which is a beat
heavy piece with a dense keyboard sound and Rhea’s still entrancing vocals.
Last Call is a short piece with a slight militaristic beat and gothic
chanting samples. Reconciled With the Light is a great way to introduce
yourself to the past sounds of La Floa Maldita and a great addition to the CD
collection of any gothic/synth-pop/electro lover.
