L.I.N. -
La Folie
Songs: 12 Time: 46:46
Well I can't say that I'm overly excited by
the newest creation of L.I.N. What use to be a mediocre Machinery band
has no gone the way of pop with their La Folie release. Combining
mild rap vocals with smooth female croons and setting it upon a bed of passable,
radio friendly L.I.N. has redefined their sound and come up with something easy
to swallow for the masses. Being that I rarely listen to the top 40 stations, I
can't really make any comparisons as to who L.I.N. sounds like. Their new sound
is just too polished to make it interesting. Granted, I can tell by listening
to La Folie that they have the capability (and equipment) to make their sound
more interesting, but for whatever reason they chose to keep it simple/stupid.
I do think that June has a great voice and it's easy to see why there is a
great crossover potential on this CD. On the other hand, their MC (UBQT) seems
far too lackadaisical in his delivery and that just drags down the music even
further. L.I.N. do implement a great deal of different sounds (trumpet, flute,
etc.) within some of the tracks, but they just don't use them as strongly or as
interesting as they possibly could. As far as success goes, this will most
likely be their best selling album, but with it they also have moved beyond
their roots and have entered into the realm of uninspired pop music.
