Kronos is a Portuguese project that delivers an array of music styles on this 5 track, self-released MCD. Untergang is a rough coldwave-ish piece in which the ghostly vocals deliver a catchy a chorus. A Blink of an Eye is a slower, goth like track with both raw and electronic elements. More aligned with modern EBM, Deconstruction features a rugged rhythm, dense beats, and even the occasional throttling guitar riff. The repetitiveness and low key approach of So Sick was a bit of a disappointment after the three previous pieces. The final track, Il Faut Etre Absolument Moderne, is a chaotic electro track where distant guitar sounds find themselves intertwined within a strange combination of light electronics and dark vocals. Where as each previous track seemed to be more easily pigeonholed into a sub-genre of industrial, this last piece really showcases Kronos’ talent for genre blending, never letting the listener get too comfortable in one style before switching gears and heading another direction. Unfortunately it is the only piece on this MCD that is not sung in English, so I have no idea what the song is truly about. Symbolon is a good release from a project that has only been in existence for a few years. While at times I felt that the production value could have been better, at other times I liked the edginess and raw feel to it.
