After nearly two decades of silence, one of
the forefathers of electronic music, Kraftwerk, return to the scene with
a new single. Expo2000 contains 4 versions of the title track,
each of which drip with that unique, semi-minimalistic sound that Kraftwerk
honed back in the 70's. Haunting keys and robotic vocal effects adorn each
track, with the Kling Klang mix 2002 taking on a mild beat and a thick,
wet rhythm. Having never been introduced to their premier works until lately, I
can say that I'm sorely disappointed that I hadn't discovered them earlier. It
was due to this single that I went on a mission to find all of the Kraftwerk CDs
I could latch onto. I suggest you do the same! If a single such as Exop2000
could have such a strong effect on myself, someone that has been into electronic
music for about 15 years, I assume it could have an even stronger effect on some
of you newcomers. I absolutely love their trance-like, computerized sound. As
a bonus, the 'moving' artwork and packaging on Expo2000 are quite eye-catching
(the scan to the left doesn't come close to doing it justice). I'm truly
ashamed that it took me this long to discover these true innovators of
electronic music.
