Quickly becoming a super group, KMFDM
release their latest album, entitled (insert 5 inane symbols representing
destruction here.) The reason I say super group isn’t because they are gaining
recognition on Top 40 radio stations worldwide, but rather because this new
album boasts a number of ‘guest artists’ including Raymond Watts, Tim Skold,
William Rieflin and Nivek Ogre. Mr. Skold is responsible for the vocals on
Anarchy, which is actually better than anything he has done before. A
massively twisted beat is joined together with a pumping rhythm and pulsating
sequences to create this nice, non-threatening track. On Unfit, Sashsa
returns to his combination of wet and raw electronic and standard dance beat.
With Watts on vocals, this track sounds much like any of the pieces off of
Angst. Death metal guitar riffs kick off Waste, which
suddenly down shifts into a more moderate pace. Sashsa himself takes up the
vocal responsibilities on this piece, which kind of trudges along but never
seems to reach any climax. The only German sung piece on this album, Leid
Und Elend, is actually the best off shoot of the staple KMFDM sound that
I’ve heard in quite some time. Sure there are still the hard and fast guitar
riffs, but the techno styled electronics and choppy percussion both add to a new
dimension to their old sound. As a whole, there are a few track on this CD
which stand out because they don’t sound like rehashed tracks, but the remainder
of the music is your standard KMFDM.
