The odd thing about this release that
immediately struck me was the pair of Talla 2XLC remixes. Considering
that Tallas music preference has seemed to move into the more mainstream techno
genre, his two mixes of Megalomaniac are actually quite good. On the
UXII mix, Talla removes the guitar work, puts emphasis on the fluctuating
rhythm and simplistic dance beats, and pushes the vocals towards the background.
On his 7 minute TVVĊ mix, Talla opts for a more rhythmic approach,
deleting most of the sequences and carry the track out via the beats and
reverberating vocals. He does leave in a minute amount of the guitars, but not
near as much as are found in the original. Tim Skold takes Anarchy and
gives it a double work over on his pair of mixes. The first, Fusako,
comes across as a mixture of hard electro vocals and gabba beat programming. On
his second mix, God and the State, he uses a slow beat progression and
juxtaposes it against a wall of throbbing rhythms and non-threatening vocals.
Excessive Force, the flip side of KMFDM, remixes Megalomaniac and
adds in some old sounding 303 techno sequences. The difference between this mix
and the original are plentiful. Given the amount of CD singles released by
KMFDM over the past few years, this one has to be the one with the most diverse
sounding mixes. Actually, I like this single even better than the full length
from which these songs first appeared.
