KMFDM - Agogo
Songs: 10  Time: 42:18
What do you do if you're a band with only one album left in you, yet you have to fulfill your contractual obligation to your label?  You release a rare / unreleased CD full of goodies.  That is exactly what KMFDM's Agogo is, an album packed with what the fans have been craving for some time.  Given the amount of time KMFDM have been together, it was inevitable that a release like this would see the light of day.  Going all the way back to 1985, Agogo features some out of print tracks, some b-sides, some compilation only pieces, and a few previously unreleased tracks.  If you've been following this style of music for any amount of time, you're sure to already be familiar with a few of these pieces.  Godlike being one of them.  This track (originally released on the deleted Naïve CD) was just one of the shining moments in KMFDM's long history.  Sampled, accelerated guitar riffs are coupled with fierce beats and angry vocals on this classic, early 90's club hit.  One year previous to that, KMFDM released this little ditty entitled More and Faster.  The 12" for this track contained tow other pieces, Rip the System and Naff Off, both of which were reminiscent of the sound that KMFDM developed during that time period.  Both of these pieces are also found on Agogo.  In 1993 Re-Constriction released a successful compilation of covers entitled Shut Up Kitty on which KMFDM did a marvelous version of U2's Mysterious Ways.  This was also one of the original pieces in which KMFDM implemented female vocals into their sound and (to borrow a phrase from Emeril) kicked it up a notch.  This musical gem, Mysterious Ways, is followed by Ooh La La, a track originally found only on the soundtrack to Hellraiser III.  The final 3 tracks, Hole in the Wall, Agogo, and Zip were all previously unreleased tracks.  Hole in the Wall contains walls of thunderous guitars, dominating beats and solid sequences.  At the time, Sasha was apparently extremely dissatisfied with this mix (reworked by Scott Burns) but now it finally sees the light of day.  Zip, created in 1985, is a minimalistic piece with churning musical elements and spoken-word delivered vocals.  For fans of KMFDM Agogo is a must, but if you're looking for something to introduce you to their sound, I'd go with any other release besides Agogo because it is really varied and doesn't really nail down the true sound of this mega successful band.
