KLANK
- Downside
Songs: 5 Time: 24:37
After a mediocre debut full length, Klank
returns with the Downside single. Containing three versions
of the title track and two versions of Animosity, Klank proves to be more
entertaining than I initially thought he could. Whereas the album version of
Downside is nothing spectacular, the two mixes are far more complex,
containing various breakdowns, growling vocals, thick, chugging guitar riffs,
and intricate sequences. The Bleeding Born Mix begins with a dense
rhythm line which is complemented by twisted beats and tough guitars. The
Whipcord Mix takes the album version even further away from it’s original
state, approaching it from a strict electro side. While this version is less
abrasive, it still retains all the power and aggression of the original while
sacrificing the guitar work. The Death After Life Mix of Animosity is a
rhythm based piece with speed metal guitar licks and fast, techno-like beats.
On the Life After Death Mix of this track, the beat is slowed down, the
guitars are removed, and several new elements are introduced, such as twisted
vocals and gothic chanted samples. If Klank continues to move more in this
direction I will be more apt to enjoy his future work.
