KILLING FLOOR
- Come Together
Songs: 4 Time: 19:07
Come Together begins with two
tracks off of Killing Floor’s last album, Divide By Zero. Come
Together is a sharp electronic piece complimented with perfected electric
guitar playing. The beats are partially based in the hip-hop category, yet the
overall track doesn’t play off as a rap-styled piece. About to Break is
a short track that heads off in an entirely different direction. More akin to
heavy alternative dance music with a punk edge, this piece proved Killing
Floor’s musical diversity. The first new mix is Institue of Technology’s
reworking of Tear it All Away. For any of you who are not already
familiar with the Institute’s sound, think US hip-hop electro. The remix of
this track is a far cry from what the original sounded like. IoT opt to
approach this track via it’s wet sequences and solid beat, with a great emphasis
being placed on the vocals. This mix has a muffled feel to it, as if it were
being heard from the bottom of a pool. Tom of Alien Faktor steps up to
the plate and does a fantastic job at remixing About to Break. Most of the
‘punk’ feel of the original is completely lost in the transition. Electronic
elements are placed in the forefront, the guitars are pushed back in the mix and
the vocals and tin-like percussion are pushed to the front. Finally, Christ
Analogue remixes Wood. Wade metamorphoses this piece into a track
that follows the same sound as Christ Analogue’s last release. Fronted vocals,
minimal (yet effective) percussion, pulsating electronics, and breaks-a-plenty.
There’s a great deal of diversity in the mixes (and even on the originals) on
this CD-5 and for the mere price of $3.99, it’s a much better deal than most big
label singles. Top that off with a memorable sample about the ‘killing floor’
swiped from the Simpson’s and you can’t go wrong.
