KIETHEVEZ - Opium
Songs: 12  Time:  55:51
KieTheVez have been around for a few years now and their music has greatly matured with each release.  After hearing the single for Can’t See This, I was eager to listen to the new full length, Opium.  Opium opens with Can’t See This, a catchy synth-pop track with a subtle backing guitar, semi-trippy beats, and ultra smooth vocals.  Religion contains equally as genial vocals, quirky synth patterns, and a backbone that consists of a mild, rolling beat.  On Wait, the beats are pushed more to the forefront, but they do not steer the emphasis away from the most important part of KieTheVez’s pieces, the vocals.  I can’t really say why it is, but I find that the vocals on every one of these piece are the most addicting and pleasant synth-pop musings I’ve heard in a long time.  The synth work and percussion on Destinies has a slight retro feel to it, especially the flat, distant sounding beats and the quivering sequences.  Happy Today is a slower piece that places the spotlight on both the tumbling beats and vocals equally.  The synth work on this piece is minimal, but its effects gives this piece a more whimsical feel.  A more aquatic nature can be found in Make Me; a track with a variety of musical sounds that all culminate to create a wonderful piece to finish off the album.  Opium is synth-pop at its most addictive and shines with many fine musical moments.
