JUNKIE XL - Saturday Teenage Kick
Songs: 12  Time:  70:16

I’m not sure who Junkie XL wants to be, either Rage Against the Machine or Headcrash.  Either way, their music is a hard combination of hip-hop and thrash.  Kinda like Rage With the Machine instead of 'Against.'  It’s not really electro or industrial, but it’s not really rap or metal either.  It’s caught in limbo somewhere between the three.  I have to admit that I do like their sound and it’s especially great driving music.  Underachievers contains radical samples, some intense scratching, and boisterous vocals.  More aligned with hip-hop is Billy Club, a track with fantastic beats, funky guitar riffs, and cascading sequences.  Metrolike is a subtler piece with steady beats, echoing vocals, and watery sequences.  The title track, Saturday Teenage Kick, is more guitar driven yet still retains the rough beats that the remainder of the album assaults the listener with.  Much like Metrolike, Fight is a lighter piece with wet sequences, a stable beat, and some odd / experimental sounds.  More like Rage without the guitars, Melange is an addictive piece with radical synths, rap-deliver vocals and a trippy beat.  Speed metal guitars are joined with a fast / hip-hop beat on Def Beat.  Along with that, this track goes through some phenomenal changes. The final track, Future in Computer Hell, contains a slower rap beat, choppy guitars, and pulsating synth lines.  All in all I really enjoyed Saturday Teenage Kick due to its aggressiveness and capability of being extremely addictive. Even though it really doesn’t entirely fit into the electro / industrial genre, I still give it a big thumbs up.
