ISH - Red
Songs:  5  Time:  22:30
Ish is the newest release from Tinman Records and shows that this quickly growing label isn’t afraid to explore further regions of the electronic music genre.  Red reminds me of a modern day Crunch-0-Matic mixed with the sampling techniques of techno.  One simple word resounds throughout the various mixes of Red.  Can you guess what that word is?  It rhymes with Fred.  This CD-5 is a teaser for a future full length and it sparkles with 3 mixes of the title track and one mix of a track entitled Run.  Albeit a bit on the repetitive side, the Warm Mix of Red approaches the track subtly with a techno orientated, extremely danceable, soft beat and vocals that sound as if they are being delivered via a megaphone.  Mick Hale (Crocodile Shop) reworks Red into two separate versions; Rotterdamn Rmx and Get To You Twice Rmx.  The former contains a variety of beat alterations and deep synth sounds while the later relies of wet sequences and muffled beats.  Run (1998 Rmx) has great Swamp Terrorists styled beat meshed with distant siren sounds, clanking synth work, and jagged synth-pop rhythms.  Having not ever heard the original I can’t comment on how different it sounds, but with all of the changes within this mix I’m sure the two versions sound nothing alike.  If the tracks on Red are any indication of what the full length will sound like it sound prove to be a hit.
