For the Los Angeles trio known as Inure, this is their debut full length on Alfa Matrix.  It seems that Alfa Matrix has been sweeping up a lot of US bands in the past years (Glis, Unter Null, Mentallo, Hungry Lucy, Regenerator, etc.) and their latest acquisition is Inure.  Inure’s sound is nothing too original or compelling, but for standard EBM it’s pretty good.  Engineered by Ted Phelps (Imperative Reaction) the production is wonderful.  Each song assaults the listener with a plethora of sounds, beat, rhythms, and vocals, yet all share equally in the outcome.  This is extremely difficult to do, but Ted pulls it off amazingly as he allows each and every sound to shine.  The vocals are somewhat hollow, but, to my ears, that permits them to mesh into the wholeness of the song.  Some of the strong, dance floor tracks include Subversive, This Disgrace, and Deception.  Suffocate is a high-speed piece with a breakneck rhythm, fast beats, and swift synths.  Would implements some future-pop synth elements into its hard, EBM structure.
            As with every Alfa Matrix CD, this one is also available as a limited edition with a bonus CD.  The bonus CD features remixes by Implant, C-Drone-Defect, Annodalleb, and others.  Annodalleb’s remix of Reign is the standout track.  Experimental, trippy, and atmospheric with slight hip-hop elements found in the beat, this track really drew me in.  Imperative Reaction transforms Deception into a high-speed digital assault with a rifling rhythm, staticy vocals, and rapid beats.
            While not treading any new ground, Inure still come across strong due to the quality and mixing of the recording.  I will be curious to see what new direction, if any, they take on their next release.
