GOODING - Factory Blue (Songs From the Unrealized Film Script
Songs: 12  Time:  66:45
Factory Blue (or Songs From the Unrealized Film Script) is an atmospheric, yet hearty release from Gooding .  This one man project from Kansas creates dense musical sculptures that surround and entrance the listener with sweeping atmospheric sequences, varied percussion elements, and haunting melodies.  The title track is a sample laden piece with an impenetrable rhythm, pounding beats, and lighter / electronic sequences.  The sample "We’re going to make the kingdom wild again’ has to be one of the most unique ever used.  Gooding envelopes the listener in an array of turbulent synth movements, developing this piece into one that is destined to become a classic.  It’s easily recognizable that Gooding puts a great deal of effort into each of his pieces, as they all have stand out qualities that differentiate them from the rest of the electronic / industrial world.  His style shines on Requiem 1918, a light piece that revolves around an airy piano progression and backing, ethereal elements.  After listening to this particular piece I have to wonder if he had any classical training. Dark Water follows the same pattern, moody piano sounds and ominous backing sounds, but this time a mild / changing beat is introduced among the slightly middle eastern flavored guitar work.  Cacophonous beats are aligned with mollifying sequences on Realization.  An eerie backdrop comprised of what sounds like slowed down vocals runs beneath a leisurely beat and aesthetic piano work on A Kinder Future.  As the track progresses the mood changes from mild to boisterous with a hurried percussion and a clanging rhythm.  A muffled beat and spacey synths begin Syne, but before long the rhythm becomes more harsh and a tin-like breakbeat takes over.  This track, like many others, goes through a plethora of changes, keeping the listener on edge as to what may happen next.  The Middle eastern flavor returns on Kingdom Two.  This time it is created via the guitar work and it is coupled with an erratic, drum and bass styled beat.  Background chanting is teamed with a mid-paced break beat, various vocal samples representing the animal kingdom, and progressive guitar work on Dreams Without Humans.  From beginning to end, Gooding weaves a plot into his music, thus creating a scriptless, non visual movie.  One that outlines the rise and fall of mankind.  One that takes use from the past and into the future.  One that can only be realized through sound.
