fm einheit - Sensation Death
Songs: 14   Time: 58:37
Best known for his work with Einsturzende Neubauten, FM Einheit branches out on his new solo release, Sensation Death.  Originally created for a futuristic stage show of the same name, Sensation Death is a work of immense creativity that stemmed from his studies of Mozart’s experimental compositions.  Virtually all the pieces on Sensation Death are beat driven, with minimal electronic elements added in for diversity and adherability.  Theme From Death Row begins this recording with a clock sounding beat and drifting electronic sequences.  This track blends into Defending Phrase, a piece comprised entirely of vocal and sound samples, a static background, and wide spread beats.  6/4 is a electronic rhythm based piece with portions of barely audible bleeps in the background.  The Switch contains an eerie music-box style sequence that goes from low to high pitches.  This sequence is then layered over top of a series of wide spaced snare hits.  Gabba influenced beats are mixed with arcade game sounding patterns and brief vocal samples on The Race.  Kompositionsspeil is the most unique sounding (and created) track on this disc.  16 layers of sequences are layer on top of one another.  During the live performances, select audience members were given control of the sequences, resulting in a different song for each performance.  On this version, an up-tempo, slightly distorted beat is combined with diva-styled vocal samples and rough analogue sequences.  Fernsehballett is a faster track, with a dense/pounding rhythm, thick/techno styled sequences, and analogue based percussion all coming together to create a sound that is reminiscent to a soundtrack for a sci-fi video game.  All 14 tracks have something different and unique to offer.  Ranging from dance orientated pieces to more experimental tracks to soundtracky compositions, Sensation Death has a combined sound that is like no other.  With more releases like this one coming from Einheit in the coming months, the world will once again be treated to the creations of a brilliant composer.
