Monument
is a compilation of sorts of older, classic Front Line
Assembly tracks originally recorded between 1989 and 1994 (between the
Gashed Senses and Crossfire and Millennium period.).
Masterfully crafted dance floor packers such as Virus, Resist,
and The Blade can all be found here, in their remixed form. Also
included on this CD are some of the lost, Euro Blade EP tracks, as
well as an unreleased version of Intermix's Monument and an
updated, newly remixed version of Vexation. This entire CD brings back
memories of why FLA became one of my favorite electro bands. Hearing the
furious rhythm of Resist and the cybernized beats behind Virus prompt me to pull
out the back catalogue for another listen. With the sudden surge in electronic
musicians, it's far too easy to forget the sound that the forefathers forged
nearly a decade ago. Monument brings back that sound and acts as a reminder of
what electro music was and how it has progressed. Greg Reely's Provo Mix
of Vexation doesn't stray to far from the original, but it does add a slight
updated sound to this FLA magnum opus. Finally, the Lost Classic Mix of
Monument is a nice addition. This more techno sounding side-project of FLA
exhibits the less aggressive, subtler side of this harsh, electro project.
Monument does serve it's purpose twofold; to give us a chance to reminisce and
also to introduce the classic side of FLA to all the new comers out there.
