FIRMAMENT - Open-Eyed Ascension
Songs: 6  Time:  33:26
Open-Eyed Ascension by Firmament is late night, thought provoking, ambient music for the mind.  I think of the album in its entirety as a slow moving river of sounds that flow freely out of the speakers and washes over the listener with an ebb of aural textures.  Eternal begins things with a low drifting synth pattern that is joined by higher pitched blankets of sounds that bathe the listener in a sea of drifting tones.  Celestial Pioneers is a fragile composition made up of a repeated, mellow sequence and coupled light, operatic chants, the distant chirping of birds, and a constant flowing synth pattern.  Sporadic, detached beats are partially concealed by a sweeping synth pattern and aquatic samples on Crimson Nebula.  A more conspicuous beat is found on the Sunset portion of Transient Sun.  While still maintaining an ambient nature, this piece is also the most upbeat, combining a high-pitched synth arrangement with a minimalistic rhythm, and watery synth stabs.  Open-Eyed Ascension is a wondrous piece of work that allows the listener to be entertained without being burdened with heavy percussion, loud synths, or heavy rhythms.
