FINAL CUT - Grind
Songs: 6  Time:  33:26
Final Cut has bounced around from label to label over the past few years and recently they landed on SlipDisc.  Aside from re-releasing their Atonement CD (with a few added bonuses), SlipDisc has also assembled and released this new EP entitled Grind.  Grind contains 3 mixes of the title track, along with two versions of The Shake and a track from the Final Cut vault, I Told You Not to Stop.  The Vocal Invocation Mix of Grind is driven by it's raw beat, bass guitar, and hollow vocals.  As the track progresses deep, bubbly synth patterns are introduced, giving it more of an electro edge.  The Taste of Paste Mix is more or less and instrumental piece with varying beats, sampled vocal snippets, and various cacophonous synth sounds.  The TEAM VSR "uNDER tHE gUN" mix is a full on drum 'n' bass mix in which only a few of the original elements of the track remain.  For the most part this version is a completely different track with some Grind samples tossed into it.  Leaning more towards the coldwave side of things, The Shake (The Learning Higher Mix) has more guitar sounds and less electronic elements present.  The beats on this version sound as if they came from a real kit and not an electronic one.  Lastly, swiped from Deep Into the Cut, is I Told You Not To Stop.  It's amazing to hear how much Final Cut have altered their sound since this track was recorded.  Sounding much like a Nitzer Ebb wannabe track, I Told You Not To Stop is an all electronic track with a steady EBM beat, hearty, cascading sequences, and deep, breathy vocals.  It's about time for Final Cut to release something new and I'm hoping that some of the mixing styles on this EP are an indication of where Final Cut are heading with their music.
