FADING COLOURS
- I'm Scared Of...
Songs: 9 Time: 73:19
Aside from being extremely beautiful, the
lead singer of Fading Colours (De Coy) has an outstanding command of her
voice. Moreso than the music, the vocals are what carry the majority of the
pieces on I’m Scared Of…. While the music does contain some
catchy elements, it merely seems to act as a canvas upon which De Coy paints
pictures of everything from ancient sirens to eternal love through her sensuous
voice. The music behind the opening piece, In This Garden of Mine,
slowly builds and builds by adding a variety of smooth and distant sounds
overtop of a mild beat. De Coy’s vocals catapult the song forward, breathing
life into every portion of it. The next track, a cover of Depeche Mode’s
Clean, is equally as impressive as the original, but even more laid back.
Lorelei is a wonderful piece with a harder rhythm and sequences that
have a slight Mediterranean feel to them. The vocals on Lorelei tell a
compelling tale of a siren that uses her desirable qualities to lure sailors to
their grave. Combining a mellow hip-hop beat with Middle Eastern patterned
sequences, Still is a light piece with a superb mixture of well delivered
vocals. Anne Clark makes a special appearance on Eveline; a moody
track with spoken word vocals and aquatic sequences. Aside from the 9 music
pieces on I’m Scared Of… there is also a multimedia video for Lorelei, which is
a good representation of what the song is about. I find that I’m Scared Off… is
a perfect album to listen to late at night, especially when I have to make those
long treks home at 4 in the morning.
