EVILS TOY - Box
Songs: 13 Time:  57:37
Thanks to the marketing genius’ at Hypnobeat for timing the release of this Box CD in coincidence with Evils Toy’s new full length, Illusion.  Box is a limited edition CD, packaged n a tin box, that contains a mixture of previously released tracks alongside of some new remixes.  I’ll begin with the Haujobb mix of Abnormal Declension. On this particular mix, Haujobb take the original (which I believe is Abnormal Decision off of XTC Implant) twist the beat (making it a bit more techno like), add some subtle 303 sounds, and omit the vocals.  Actually I was not really too impressed with this mix, as I have heard much better mixes by Haujobb.  Mad Modern World is one of the exclusive / previously unreleased pieces on this CD.  If you’re familiar with Evils Toy’s sound, than this is a standard piece.  A rolling percussion is accented by thick rhythms and twittering synth lines.  The Slowmotion Mix of Organics isn’t really too slow.  The rhythm is rather fast paced and the vocals and sequences are equally as speedy.  More along the lines of a moody / atmospheric track, Re/Feeled takes the typical Evils Toy sound, slows it down, and muffles it.  The vocals are delivered as whispers and the wet sequences are quite meaty.  Sacred, off of their debut album, gets reworked on the Diva Mix.  Piquing sequences full of hollow sounding effects, glottal vocals, and flat beats are what join together to create this exclusive mix.  Second Decay take a stab at remixing Make Up and what they come up with is a track that places the chirpy sequences up front and push the vocals and beats into the background.  The remainder of this CD consists of previously released pieces such as The Old Race, Dear God, and Lonely.  Considering that about ½ of this disc consists of new or remixed material, it’s not a bad deal if your a die hard fan of Evils Toy.
