Am I the only person on the planet who
actually enjoys this CD? Angels Only! contains some of the most
addicting music I've heard in awhile. It's not just one or two pieces that
strike me as compelling, but it's nearly every track. The Concrete Garden
is a wonderful, light dance track with deep vocals, nimble beats, and twittering
sequences. Transparent Frequencies follows the same pattern of
programming and vocal delivery style that Evils Toy explored on Illusions.
It is also similar in lyrical content, in that it deals with extraordinary ideas
(angels et.al.) Evils Toy take a stab at a pseudo love song with Forever?!.
Composed of trippy beats, repetitive samples, and light vocals, this track is
one of the most progressive pieces Evils Toy has ever composed. What sounds to
be a second part to PSI, Back on Earth is an alien electro dance
piece with thumping beats, wet sequences, and dark vocals. More synth-poppy in
nature, A Girl Called Bitch is musically light and lyrically
grudge-filled. Angels Only! - Above is another lighter track with docile
vocals and attractive sequences. Colours Out of Space does have a slight
80's synth-pop feel to it. Volker's unmistakable vocals drift effortlessly over
top of the soothing synths and backing beats. My only disappointment with this
CD is the length. These days's most full lengths are over 50 or even 60
minutes, but this one falls beneath the 45-minute mark. Aside from that, I
think this is a brilliant CD full of positive energy and melodic electronics.
