ESCAPE, THE
- Anthem
Songs: 5 Time: 18:19
Well I suppose it was inevitable that the
time would come when I’d be disappointed with a Celtic Circle release. Anthem
by The Escape is that release. I normally don’t have a problem
with gothic music, but when a band attempts to combine waltz and goth together
(such as on Over the Mountains), I have to draw the line. Not only is
the music irritating, but the lead singer’s voice is horrible. His delivery
comes across as though he’s struggling to get his voice as low as he can so the
songs come off sounding as gothic as possible. The piano driven music behind
God? isn’t that bad, but the intrusive vocals ruin what could be a good
piece of music. The same goes for Waiting. This track could be a nice
relaxing composition if the vocals were omitted. A cover of Sound of Silence
is beaten to death by horrible vocals and lackluster programming. Anthem is
limited to 1000 copies and I’d be extremely suprised if all of them were sold.
