Illinois electro soloist Andy/Rew Ernst has
taken the best songs from his two previous cassette releases, added in a few new
tracks, and released his latest tape, Blood and Meat. While the
music composition seems to be of high quality, I can not say as much for the
recording that I received. I realize that demos are not going to have the best
production, but this particular demo seems to be a 2nd or 3rd generation copy.
Aside from not being a very 'crisp' sounding recording, there is also quite a
bit of clicking and clattering between some of the tracks (as if it were dubbed
on a less than perfect recorder.) Well, onto the music itself. EffEct 47
has a wonderfully varied style to the music. Some of it fits nicely into the
harsh Euro electro category (think Wumpscut, Hocico, Allied
Vision) while other tracks lean toward the ambient side of music. There are
even a few tracks that display some synth-pop stylings. If EffEct 47 is one
thing, it's diverse. Rew seems to know his machines well and he gets a good
deal of interesting sounds out of them. For a one man project, EffEct 47 is
impressive indeed. If you can get past the poor recording quality, you might
want to checkout EffEct 47. Hopefully Rew's sending out better copies to labels
and reserving the less quality ones for reviews like myself.
