DIGITAL FACTOR - De Facto

Songs: 11  Time: 50:23

With a new album being released in the fall, Digital Factor have decided to give us a taste of their new sound.  De Facto is a limited edition full length CD featuring 5 new tracks and 6 remixes.  De Facto begins with a electo cover of Nirvana’s Rape Me.  After a slow build-up, the rhythm and beats shift into high gear.  The vocals are slightly distorted, but not to the point of being indecipherable.  Off of their F.A.L.L.I.N.G. D.O.W.N. single, Digital Factor present a reworked version of Sex Machine and an updated mix of the title track.  While both of these new mixes contain harsh rhythms, the mix of F.A.L.L.I.N.G. D.O.W.N. also contains several techno elements within the sequences.  The Stage Mix of Electroshock (off of 1995’s Relationchips CD) begins with a collage of experimental noises before morphing into a more electro orientated piece with a rough rhythm line and militant beat.  Two completely different mixes of X-Rayzor (Contamination v2.0 and Project B Remix) and the Extended version of Go Ahead round out the remixed tracks.  The Project B Remix of X-Rayzor is an instrumental piece that is more techno-like than electo.  The Contamination v2.0 mix is a pure assault on the senses.  A pounding beat, gritty vocals, solid rhythm, and plenty of samples all come together on this piece.  The 4 new and original tracks are Inferiority Complex, Mad Meetings, Lost in Life, and White.  I was a bit surprised to hear the new direction that Digital Factor seem to be taking.  With the exception of Lost in Life, all of the new tracks tend to lean towards a more intelligent programming.  The tracks are rhythm or beat driven, but more sequence driven, with some of the tracks containing no vocals whatsoever.  I like his new style a lot and I definitely look forward to hearing the full length in the coming months.
