Strange Affection
is one of the many singles to be released from De/Vision's greatest album
to date, Monosex. Containing three versions of the title track (Radio
Edit, Album Edit, and Long Form Radio Edit), as well as one
live track and one unreleased track, Strange Affection is a single that every
die-hard De/Vision fan should own. Even though the three version of the title
track aren't too different from one another (except in length), it's the two
bonus tracks that make this CD worth owning. The six minute plus live version
of New Drug has a wonderful feel to it, placing the listener in the front
row of the live De/Vision experience. Whereas most electronic bands tend to
vary their live versions from the originals, New Drug comes across as clean as
the album version, but adds in the various crowd noises (shouts, claps, etc.) Soul
For Sale is a slower De/Vision piece that carries itself with a continuous,
solid dance beat and drifting sequences. The addicting vocals sweep across the
music as a sailboat would on a calm summer lake. Strange Affection is
just one of the many great De/Vision tracks and the reason it deserves its own
single is easily justifiable. Just take one listen to this track and you're
hooked.
