DEVISION - Foreigner

Songs: 4  Time:  18:47

De/Vision reappear in the synth-pop realm with their new single, Foreigner.  As a predecessor to their next full length, Foreigner shows De/Vision moving in a slightly new direction.  Whereas in the past De/Vision’s music was subtly addicting and wispy in nature, Foreigner shines with its edgier programming and mild guitars.  The raw and natural vocals remain the same and continue to emit a soothing feeling to the listener.  Re-Invent Yourself (also taken from their forthcoming full length entitled Void) contains tranquilizing sequences coupled with some harder aspects, such as roughed up guitar licks and a beat that switches from mildly raspy to erratic and wild.  Moonbeam is a lackluster instrument piece that is ridden with samples concerning the Shroud of Turin.  Laslty, De/Vision presents to us one of the ‘lost’ mixes of Hear Me Calling.  The enTrusted to Mesh remix was reconstructed by one of the most highly praised Euro synth-pop bands of the 90’s, Mesh.  Designed for the dance floor, this mix of Hear Me Calling sports a constant, thumping beat, smooth vocals, and quirky synth patterns.  Judging from the trio of new pieces on this single, I can assume that De/Vision’s newly found sound will be generally more abrasive than their pieces of the past.  Whether or not this new style will be appreciated by the fans will be interesting.
