DELAY
- Keep in Mind
Songs: 15 Time: 70:49
It actually takes a certain, relaxed mood for
me to truly enjoy the songs of Delay. What could very well be their
final release, Keep in Mind is a collection of their best tracks
and remixes with the addition of a few that were previously unreleased. Underdoc
(Maertens Mix) was previously available on the limited edition MCD that was
released in conjunction with Doc Maertens. This piece was my real introduction
to Delay and it still remains my favorite. Hard edged electro rhythms are
blended nicely with ‘happy’ sequences and a steady beat. The vocals are
delivered in synth-pop fashion, but the lyrics have a bit more bite than normal
synth-pop. The Original Extended Mix of Stay must be one of their
more recent tracks as the vocals are delivered by a female (Corinne Föllmi) who
recently joined the group. The music on this piece is geared more towards the
‘techno-diva-dance’ style with a few underlying synth-pop features. Working
in a Factory (Underdog Edit) reverts back towards electro with its
consistent laser sounding rhythm and vigorous sounding sequences, but the
untreated, high pitched vocals give it a bit of a spin. Off of their previous
full length, Winter Paranoia, Delay give us Two Weeks a
track that showed them branching off a bit from their sound and approaching
electronic music from several angles at once. More of a mood piece, Two Weeks
begins with a throbbing rhythm, bell-like sequenced sounds, and soft vocals
which are blended into the music rather than placed directly on top.
Crusaders (Dust Mix) adds light sequences to a near tribal percussion and
some raw electro rhythm lines. One of their club hits, Wasting My Time,
presents itself with vivacious sequences, rolling beats, and echoing vocals.
Another newer piece, Soul Cremation, again features Corinne’s whimsical
vocals. Underneath her voice flows some soothing sequences and a light, airy
beat. When the Moon Became Red (Stigma Mix) highlights Andy’s vocals by
placing them atop a piano progression akin to Mike Oldfield and beats
aligned with modern electro. Keep in Mind acts as both an introduction to the
bands past work and a final farewell to all their fans.
