From what I can gather Virtual
Masturbation of a Bastard Leader by Brazilian artist Dead Jump is
a best of / remix CD. The sound of Dead Jump is a combination of hard electro
dance and intense cyber-tech madness. Each of the 14 tracks are loaded with
both vocal and music samples and each track goes through a variety of changes,
making them extremely interesting to listen to. Try to imagine a fusion between
mid-period Front Line Assembly, newer Biopsy, and Skinny Puppy
and you'll have Faces. Of the three mixes of this piece, the
Cut-Throat Remix seems to be the more furious, whereas the Bastard Re-Mix
tends to be more laid back and less aggressive. Infected (Death Mix)
is another great track which implements short guitar snippets amongst dense
rhythms, raspy vocals, and spastic sequences. Aghast View take this
piece, remix it, and add even more depth to the beats while bringing the synth
patterns more towards the front of the mix. The title track, VMBL is
presented in two parts, with the first relying heavily on a slow, rolling
percussion line, quirky sequences, and whispered vocals. The second part adds a
harder rhythm, more complex beats, and more accessible sequences. With it's
slight Middle Eastern flavor, Broken (Just Punished) is reminiscent of
Delerium, but with a bit more edge to the programming. Front Runner
remixes Mortal Plague into a staticy electro piece with vocoded vocals,
crisp synth patterns, and choppy beats. With the release of Virtual
Masturbation… Dead Jump has easily proven themselves as yet another great band
to come out of South America.
