San Diego's DB9D9 got a bit of a break
that most bands would literally give their left arm for. One of their earlier
recordings was used in a past episode of Melrose Place. Granted, most electro
bands are not banging on the door of Aaron Spelling Productions, soliciting
their latest release for future airtime on his over-rated, over-hyped TV show,
but getting any kind of commercial airplay can only be beneficial. After
listening to this 4 track demo, I can't help but wonder in what context their
song was used. DB9D9's sound is cold and hard, walking the thin line between
standard dance electro and intense coldwave. They seem to rely heavily on
gritty guitar chords, angry vocals and thick electronics to carry their sound
across. It's almost as if their creating pieces that could possibly generate
some mainstream interest, yet they add in a dash of creativity which,
unfortunately, will probably keep them out of the limelight. For those who are
excited by the harder edged, guitar orientated electro, I suggest you check out
DB9D9.
