Touted as a 'best of' compilation,
Re_Kapitulation is the latest of the Das Ich releases. Pulling
from their extensive back catalogue, Re_Kapitulation features many of the band's
most familiar tracks. A good chuck of these tracks were recorded between 1997
and 1999, which was the time in which US audiences really began to catch onto
this German duo's sound. Destillat, Erde Ruft, Kindgott,
and Re_Animat are just a few of these most recent recordings. Each has
that distinct Das Ich sound which can not really be 'described' as well as it
could be 'experienced.' Over the past few years Das Ich have transformed their
sound into a more dancefloor friendly one, enticing people to pack the floors at
clubs across the country. This period also spawned their Re_Laborat
release, which teamed today's top 'electro' acts against Das Ich, creating a
remix CD unlike any other. Originally only available during their fall '99
tour, Re_Kapitulaiton is now available domestically via Neue Ästhetik
Multimedia. While there is nothing new to be found on this CD, there is indeed
a gem by the name of Re-Animat, which was previously only available on the
limited double version of Re_Laborat. Re_Animat shows yet a new direction for
the band, concentrating even more on melodies than rhythms. If you have to
discover Das Ich, this is a great place to start without breaking your budget on
all of those import releases.
