DAS ICH

Egodram
is the latest release from the hard German darkwave act Das
Ich. With this new release Das Ich seemed to have moved further towards a
more noisier electro style, especially with their development of more complex
beats and denser sequences. The title track is a short piece that combines
symphonic elements with distorted noise and laid back German vocals. Kindgott
continues to experiment with the noise side of things with its rough synth
rhythm and dark sequences. The beat on this piece is energetic as are the
vocals. Again, as is Das Ich’s nature, there are plenty of synthesized string
sounds added into the mix. Destillat packs a powerful punch with its
aggressive vocal delivery, complicated synths, and pounding rhythm. More
militaristic in nature He Mensch is a less structured piece with a
pounding percussion intro, eriee, symphonic arrangements, and angry vocals. The
song pace fluctuates between fast and slow, all depending on the speed of the
particular drum pattern being used. Krieger is a solid electro dance
piece with cybernized backing sequences, tumultuous beats, and soundtrack styled
synths. Things are slowed down a tad with the soft instrumental entitled
Dorn. This piece is a subtle, yet moving composition that sounds like it
was created to be used as the closing credit theme music for a horror / sci-fi
movie. Elaborate beats play throughout Reflex; a more dance oriented
track with slight noise elements aligned against hard electro rhythms. Egodram
was a long time coming and I was worried that it really wasn’t going to be worth
the wait, but I was wrong. This is a great album that fuses together so many
different styles of electronic music. I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying it.
